HERE'S A RECAP OF WRAD 2024!
For WRAD 2024, here's what I shared with my groups:
A choice of reading my debut, GOODNIGHT GANESHA, illustrated by award-winning illustrator, Poonam Mistry, or a preview of my upcoming non-fiction picture book biography, A VOICE OF HOPE: THE MYRLIE EVERS-WILLIAMS STORY, illustrated by award-winning illustrator, London Ladd.

Thank you to all the schools that signed up to read my debut picture book, GOODNIGHT GANESHA and preview my upcoming 2024 title, A VOICE OF HOPE: THE MYRLIE EVERS-WILLIAMS STORY! I read with schools from NY and San Bernardino and Covina, CA. Our 20-minute WRAD time slot was short and went by quickly! But we had a blast. Until next year... |
Here's what we did:
1-2 minutes: I introduced myself, played a TRAILER of my book, GOODNIGHT GANESHA.
5-7 minutes: Spent sharing a video of Poonam Mistry discussing Kalamkari art. We talked about the illustrations she created.
Visit Poonam's website
8-10 minutes: I showed the book and its underside. Then shared screen and read from the book.
I also spent time sharing a sneak peek of my upcoming book, A VOICE OF HOPE: THE MYRLIE EVERS-WILLIAMS STORY. We listened to a video clip of illustrator, London Ladd speaking about his art. We flipped through the spreads of the book. Then took Q&A from students.
Visit London Ladd's website
We discussed how I met Ms. Evers Williams, who she is and why it's important to know about her activism. We also discussed the research that went into writing the book. The book releases in the Fall of 2024!
