WORLD READ ALOUD DAY
Wednesday, February 7th, 2024
Are you ready for #WRAD2024? I am.
Teachers, librarians, educators, homeschoolers will have a choice of reading my debut picture book, GOODNIGHT GANESHA, illustrated by one of the UK's award winning artist, Poonam Mistry. Or getting a sneak peek and preview of my upcoming non-fiction picture book biography, MYRLIE: A VOICE OF HOPE, illustrated by the highly acclaimed artist, London Ladd.
I'll share resources on how you could incorporate GOODNIGHT GANESHA and its universal themes into your curriculum and the journey to tell the story of Myrlie Evers-Williams' life story, perseverance, and her activism in MYRLIE: A VOICE OF HOPE.
I will have content suitable for elementary, middle school, and high school students.
Sign-up before my slots fill-up. Click on the sign-up button below for a slot. And if you don't see a time on the sign-up that works, but would like a visit, please message me via my contacts page.

HERE'S A RECAP OF WRAD 2023!
Here's what we did:
1-2 minutes: I introduced myself, played a TRAILER of my book, GOODNIGHT GANESHA.
8-10 minutes: I showed the book and its underside. Then shared screen and read from the book.
5-7 minutes: Spent sharing a video of Poonam Mistry discussing Kalamkari art. We talked about the illustrations she created.
Visit Poonam's website.
I also spent time taking Q&A from students.
For the sneak peek of MYRLIE: A VOICE OF HOPE - I briefly introduced myself, discussed my upcoming titles, and then delved into my journey with this second book.
We discussed how I met Ms. Evers Williams, who she is and why it's important to know about her activism. We also discussed the research that went into writing the book, the kinds of sources I used with a video breaking down the difference between primary sources versus secondary sources. We also took a look at the illustrative process I'm going through with London Ladd. I shared his artist statement and process. Then we read the manuscript that will become a book you can hold in Fall of 2024!
